Hong Kong and Macau journalists awarded in Italy

Journalists of local media, were involved in the events during SalumiAmo. From the pages of their newspapers and through their broadcats, many of them talked about deli meats, their unique characteristics and qualities, helping IVSI to spread the culture of Italian salumi during SalumiAmo Hong Kong. Some selected journalists were honored in Italy in October 14, 2014 with the Reporter del Gusto award, a prize born in 2005 with the support of the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies, to enhance the informative and valuable work media usually do. Hong Kong and Macau professionists were awarded for the help they gave to make Italian deli meats appreciated by Asian consumers, knowing them better. The international section in 2014 awarded: Mark Isaac Hammons, Tasting Kitchen; Yin Wa Chan, U Magazine; Grace Yan Yan Pang, Oriental Daily; Paulo Jorge Lopes Coutinho, Macau Daily Times; Li Hui, Phoenix TV (who sent a videomessage because of the inability to attend the ceremony in Italy). A special prize to the magazine The Sun.


2013 - SalumiAmo Hong Kong in details

The Istituto Valorizzazione Salumi Italiani organised a series of events dedicated to consumers. SalumiAmo is a multi-level promotion Program that includes aperitifs, created to offer a unique experience of the authentic Aperitivo italiano; featuring a guided tasting of PDO and PGI deli meats during the Happy Hour time, a real ritual among young Italians, these aperitifs are usually organised in the trendiest places. 
SalumiAmo Hong Kong was organised by IVSI and ITA (Italian Trade Agency - and brought in Hong Kong and Macau a touch of Italian deli meats. SalumiAmo® is an IVSI trademark.

Events and promotions in Hong Kong

The promotion program in Hong Kong and Macau consisted of several events and initiatives, including three weeks of promotions in selected restaurants and venues, trade promotions in stores and specific courses about Italian salumi in two different professional cooking schools in Hong Kong (VTC - Institute of Vocational Education, and in Macau (IFT - Institute For Tourism Studies, During the promotional weeks, Italian Salumi were offered in free tasting in a real Italian Aperitivo. Taste and sweet aroma of top quality deli meats lead you on a journey of taste among the hills of the production areas of Italian charcuterie, the plains of northern Italy and southern territories, where these Italian gastronomic delights are created.


Traditional recipes, classic flavors of Italian cuisine and a touch of class, gave rise to the opening night of SalumiAmo Hong Kong. Guests could enjoy during happy hour, a selection of strictly Italian salumi production, such as Prosciutto di Parma PDO, Prosciutto di San Daniele PDO, Mortadella Bologna PGI, Salame Cacciatore PDO, the four Salumi di Calabria PDO, Cooked ham and many others. Trainee chefs as well as professional chefs attended specific lessons in Hong Kong and Macau, held by the Italian chef Fabio Ugoletti, to know more about Italian salumi history, tradition, producing processes and their use in Italian cuisine. Some food department stores were involved in trade promotions, to make Italian salumi better known and appreciated during these 3 weeks. An Italian chef for SalumiAmo Hong Kong

Chef Fabio Ugoletti, who was in Hong Kong and Macau during the promotion weeks, created a typical Italian menu for the opening nights, with traditional dishes as well as modern ones. Moreover, chef Ugoletti has been responsible for overseeing with the chef and resident staff of each venue involved, to ensure during the weeks of promotion a true Italian experience.
Born in Parma, Fabio Ugoletti has a twenty-years culinary experience gained in leading restaurants and luxury hotels worldwide. Grand Hotel Florence, Milan Diana Hotel, Cala di Volpe in Sardinia, Le Cirque 2000 in New York City, Shangri-La hotels in China are just some of the names that have helped him in building his reputation internationally. His experience has culminated in obtaining a star in the prestigious Michelin Guide to restaurant Al Gallopapa in the Siena hills' countryside, with a regional, creative and interesting cuisine. His career as a chef has always maintained a constant activity of consultant, trainer, organizer of gala dinners for many international restaurants. He has lectured and promoted Italian cuisine abroad during events sponsored by the Institute for Foreign Trade and some Italian consulates. Ugoletti also began a collaboration with ALMA - International Cooking School ( in 2005.

To raise awareness of the origins and traditions of salumi, Chef Fabio Ugoletti hosted also two master classes at the Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), Hong Kong and two master classes at the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), Macao. He shared the secret traditions, production methods and characteristics of each delicacy, teaching professional chefs and trainees, everything about salumi production, history and PDO/PGI marks recognition.

During the promotion weeks in Hong Kong and Macau, some high-level restaurants and venues offered authentic Italian Salumi to their customers, to share the taste the Italian way. Hong Kong

From 20th to 22nd November

Gaia Ristorante - A contemporary Italian restaurant located on the Italian inspired piazza at Grand Millennium Plaza in Central, making this ultra glamorous restaurant one of only a few places where it’s possible to dine al fresco in the heart of Hong Kong. Gaia is well known for its daily antipasto buffet - one of Hong Kong’s finest and freshest selections of favourite Italian starters, savouries, salads and cheeses, and a wine list that boasts over 600 Italian and French wines.

Domani - Domani Ristorante's menu combines the best of the cutting-edge and the traditional in the world of Italian cuisine.
